This nebula is a shell of gas that is being effected by strong stellar winds from the central star.  This star is a special type called a Wolf-Rayet star.  This type of star is very hot and massive.  It creates this effect by blowing off it's out layers.  The image was taken using an Hydrogen-alpha filter for luminance and then red, green and blue for color.
